About This Item

London: Vintage, 2002. Soft cover. Fine. 8vo. Soft cover. 276 pp. Numerous photographs. Slight tilt to spine, light edge toning, else fine. Growing up in California, Dennis Severs fell in love with the England he saw in old black and white movies. At seventeen he came to London, looking for a home with a heart. In 1979 he found one -- a run-down silk-weaver's house in Spitalfields -- and over the next twenty years he transformed it into an enchanted time capsule, transporting us back to the eighteenth century.

Synopsis

Born in California in 1948, died in London in 1999. He came to live in England in 1967. Ran tours of London in a horse-drawn carriage. Then bought 18 Folgate Street and created his own 'still-life drama' of life and the house as they used to be. From the Hardcover edition.
