About the author
Andrs Oppenheimer es uno de los periodistas y escritores ms influyentes de la lengua espaola. Nacido en Argentina, estudi en la Universidad de Buenos Aires y luego obtuvo una maestra en Periodismo de la Universidad de Columbia. Fue jefe de la corresponsala de The Miami Herald en Mxico, y encargado de la cobertura del peridico en Colombia, Panam y otros pases. Trabaj durante cinco aos en The Associated Press en Nueva York y ha escrito para The New York Times, The Washington Post, The New Republic, CBS News y El Pas, de Espaa. Actualmente es columnista de The Miami Herald y conductor del programa Oppenheimer Presenta en Foro TV y CNN en Espaol. Sus libros ms recientes son Crear o morir, Basta de historias, Cuentos chinos y Crnicas de hroes y bandidos. Fue ganador del Premio Pulitzer de 1987 junto con el equipo de The Miami Herald que descubri el escndalo Irn-Contras; recibi los premios Ortega y Gasset del peridico El Pas, de Espaa; el Premio Rey de Espaa, otorgado por la agencia EFE; el Maria Moors Cabot, de la Universidad de Columbia; el Overseas Press Club Award, y el premio Emmy Suncoast, de la Academia Nacional de Televisin, Artes y Ciencias de Estados Unidos. Ha sido distinguido con doctorados honoris causa por la Universidad ESAN de Per, la Universidad Domingo Savio de Bolivia y la Universidad Galileo de Guatemala.

Fine (F)A book in fine condition exhibits no flaws. A fine condition book closely approaches As New condition, but may lack the crispness of an uncirculated, unopened volume.

Near Fine (NrFine or NF)Almost perfect, but not quite fine. Any defect outside of shelf-wear should be noted.

Very Good (VG)A used book that does show some small signs of wear - but no tears - on either binding or paper. Very good items should not have writing or highlighting.

Good (G or Gd.)The average used and worn book that has all pages or leaves present. ‘Good’ items often include writing and highlighting and may be ex-library. Any defects should be noted. The oft-repeated aphorism in the book collecting world is “good isn’t very good.”

FairIt is best to assume that a “fair” book is in rough shape but still readable.

Poor (P)A book with significant wear and faults. A poor condition book can still make a good reading copy but is generally not collectible unless the item is very scarce. Any missing pages must be specifically noted.
