Rare books from Longland Books

Paris: The Obelisk Press, 1938 Inscribed on fep " To George S Francis from Henry Miller Paris 2/39 ". Internally very good subject to some browning towards page edges.Binding has been reinforced. Cover reasonably bright subject to browning with slight wear to edges.Spine worn. Scans available.

London: Henry Anderson, 1744 Accounts of eleven leading trials held between 1699 and 1722. pp iii + 524. Internally in very good condition, recently rebound in full leather.

Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1900 Internally in fine condition subject to moderate spotting to end papers; binding firm - this book has evidently been seldom, if ever, read.The cover, which bears the coat of arms of The Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors, is bright with slight shelf wear.The spine is a little faded with very slight wear to the extremities.

London, 1639 Printed by Miles Fletcher and Robert Young, assignes of John More esquire.Text in Norman French. This textbook for law students first appeared in 1528 and went through a succession of editions in the 16th and 17th centuries. This copy comprises the title page, a page of chapter headings, Proemium ( 5 pages), The Table ( 39 pages) , and 334 pages of text. Internally generally very good subject to a small wormhole through lower inner margins affecting one or two letters, and some loss to the edges ( presumably from insects) of the first and last two blank leaves, and also the title page ( but not affecting the text). There is the ownership signature of a John Bond on the title page ( neat and inoffensive) and a number of notes in the margins of the text ( in French in a very neat hand). The binding is firm. The cover ( contempory sheep ) is somewhat worn with a 1cm crack between the top of the spine and the front cover, and there are two small wormholes in the spine.

London: Isaac Cleave, 1708 pp vi + 138 + xiv; This book has been professionally repaired with the spine being replaced and corners strengthened; the boards are early and in good condition. Internally very good, with a little browning and the stamp of a firm of solicitors on the inside front cover, binding firm. Uncommon

London: Max Parrish, 1952 A very bright copy in a like dj which has had a closed tear professionally repaired.

London: The Poetry Bookshop, 1916 The author's first book. Internally very good subject to moderate browning and dustiness and a few small stains to the title page (couple mirrored on inside front cover) . Binding firm. Cover is somewhat shelfworn and a little scuffed with a small stain; the Claud Fraser design on the front cover is reasonably bright.

London: Longmans, Green, and Co, 1896 pp xiv + 204; Six lectures with an appendix by Dr Alys Russell on Social Democracy and the Woman Question in Germany. Internally fresh subject to slight browning, binding firm, blue boards a little marked with some wrinkles (look to be from production), spine a little sunned. Moderate wear to corners and extremities of spine.

1676 pp (14) + 1-136 ( first part) ; (8) + 137-348 + (20) (second part) ; ( 10) + 159 + (15) ( third part) The first part, a history of the Civil War, first published in 1649, was written by George Bate ( physician to Charles 1, Oliver Cromwell and also Charles 2), he also wrote the second part which covers the years 1649-59. Following the death of Bates in 1668 the third part, covering the years 1659-69, was written by Thomas Skynner ,also a physician . This copy is internally in very good condition; the binding is tight and looks at some stage to have been strengthened. The cover, early perhaps contemporary, is moderately marked and scuffed with an owner's reference number on the spine; front hinge cracked but holding.

London: George Sawbridge, 1674 pp (22) + 107 + 183-429 . In addition to the frontispiece there are five folding plates. This copy is complete despite the jump in pagination after page 107 ; it corresponds with that in the British Library. Internally very good subject to moderate browning, some fraying to the fep and fairly inoffensive evidence of moisture to the edges of the first few leaves. Hinges cracked although binding still holding. Cover, which looks to be contemporary, rather worn. The boards scuffed with wear to the edges and corners. The ornate spine has significant wear to both extremities. Scans available.

London: Companie of Stationers, 1623 pp [1] + [2] + [2] + [18] + (578) + [5] ; First published in 1580. Internally very good subject to top margin fairly closely cropped but no impact on lettering, inoffensive water staining noticeable on a fair proportion of the leaves. Owners bookplate , with signature, late 19th cent, on inside front cover. The book has been rebacked with new endpapers; front of what looks to be the original spine retained. The boards, which look to be contemporary, are sound.

Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1762 pp [3] + 258 + [2] + [3] with folded plate , [2] + cxv + 135 + [8] Both volumes internally very good with slight browning, 20th cent owners plate on inside front covers, bindings sound, moderate wear to covers ( look to be contemporary)

Richardi Totelli, 1592 pp [1] + [2] + [2] + [17] + 578 + [5] Rebound in full leather with most of surface of original cover relaid ; later label. Text block sound subject to being a little cropped with slight impact to a small proportion of page headings; some browning to first and last few leaves

London: Robert Barker, 1613 pp [1] + [1] + 119. A bright tight copy, last leaf a little closely cropped - edge just touching page number, small owner's label (20th cent) on inside back cover, no final blank. Cover, likely to be rather later , has moderate browning/spotting.

Longman, 1756 Internally very good with slight browning, scored out signature on inside front cover - dated 1853 , another signature on fep - dated 1875 , trimming a little tight - just touching letter "A" on title page, binding sound - having been reinforced at some stage, edges of textblock rather dusty, cover (looks to be contemporary) sound subject to the marbled boards being rather worn and scuffed,
