Billy Graham (1918 – 2018)

William Franklin Graham Jr was an American evangelist, a prominent evangelical Christian figure, and an ordained Southern Baptist minister who became well-known internationally in the late 1940s.

Billy Graham wrote a total of 33 books, including many best-sellers and autobiographies, and many of his earlier works have been updated and reissued throughout the years. Here's a look at the highlights of his 70-year publishing career:

One of his first books, Peace With God, was published by Doubleday in 1953 and has sold over 2 million copies in 38 languages. It was revised and expanded multiple times including editions in 1984, 2000, and 2017.

His 1955 book, Freedom From the Seven Deadly Sins; The Secret Of Happiness was revised and expanded in 1985.

The 1965 book World Aflame was a New York Times and Times Magazine best-seller.

The Jesus Generation published in 1971 sold 200,000 copies in the first two weeks after publication. This has not been reissued, most likely because the content is dated, but if you can find a copy of the 1971 book it has the most amazing artwork on the cover.

Graham's 1975 book Angels: God's Secret Agents was an instant best-seller, and had sales of a million copies within 90 days of release. "Angels" gives ringing assurance that we are assisted and defended by a powerful order of invisible beings. It was revised and expanded in 1985 and reissued again in 1994 and 1995.

In 1977 Graham's book How To Be Born Again was said to have made publishing history with its first printing of 800,000 copies

Approaching Hoofbeats: The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, publishing in 1983, made The New York Times best-seller list.

Graham's 1997 best-seller Just As I Am shares how he came from ordinary beginnings to have an extraordinary life of prestige and influence - all derived from his unshakable belief in Christ. This auto-biography was reissued in 2007.

A collection of Graham's 2005 New York City crusade sermons Living God's Love: The New York Crusade was published in 2005.

In Nearing Home: Life, Faith and Finished Well, published in 2011 when Graham was in his 90s, he shares the challenges of fading strength but still standing strong in his commitment to finished life well.

In 2015, at the age of 97, Graham published Where I Am: Heaven, Eternity and out Life Beyond. It is described as the “Final Chapter From Billy Graham. Experience the glory of heaven as Billy Graham, the beloved evangelist, shares from his past, and his present, the reality of eternity.” Graham shares what the Bible has to say about eternity from all of its sixty-six books; messages of truth, warning, love, and the certainty of the future. Some critics claim that the harsh tone of the book and focus on hell seems heavily influenced by Franklin Graham, who wrote the foreword, although Franklin Graham disputes those claims.
