Laid in is a 20 page booklet "The Story of the Warm Springs Foundation" which not only features President Franklin Delano Roosevelt but lists all the Medical Doctors, Therapists, and administrators. (Program laid in June 20, 1947 with Josephus Daniels, Secretary of Navy, and other dignitaries with Graham Jackson presenting a medley of Franklin D. Roosevelt's favorite songs. Description:
Washington D.C.: J. & G. S. Gideon, 1845. 8vo, printed self-wrappers. 24 pp., 14 wood engravings. Likely the first publication of the standardized Morse code-the first widely used modern data code. First Edition. This important pamphlet was published by Alfred Vail (1807-1859) after the successful test of a Congressionally approved experimental telegraph line spanning from Baltimore to Washington D.C. On 24 May 1844, Samuel F. B. Morse (1791-1872) transmitted the momentous first telegraph message-"What hath God wrought?"-through the telegraph line, using the version of "Morse code" that later became standardized in both America and Canada. On the receiving end was Vail, Morse's associate in developing the telegraph. Having worked with Morse since 1837, Vail imported letters and special characters into Morse's original experimental numeric code (which was based on optical telegraph codes) such that it could be used more generally. Vail is credited for having created the most useful and efficient… Read More

Heralded as the best book on the dope decade, Hunter Thompson's documented drug orgy through Las Vegas would no doubt leave Nancy Reagan blushing. Under the pseudonym of Raoul Duke, Thompson travels with his Samoan attorney, Dr. Gonzo, in a souped-up convertible dubbed the Great Red Shark. In the trunk, they hide two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half-full of cocaine and a whole galaxy of multicolored uppers, downers, and screamers. Description:
A Near Fine copy with the usual touch of sunning to board edges in a Near Fine bright unclipped dust jacket with a short closed edge tear to the top edge of the front panel and a crease to the front flap. No names, writing, tears or chips to the jacket. The book is a roman à clef, rooted in autobiographical incidents. The story follows its protagonist, Raoul Duke, and his attorney, Dr. Gonzo, as they descend on Las Vegas to chase the American Dream through a drug-induced haze, all the while ruminating on the failure of the 1960s countercultural movement. The work is Thompson's most famous, and is noted for its lurid descriptions of illegal drug use, its early retrospective on the culture of the 1960s, and its popularization of Thompson's highly subjective blend of fact and fiction that has become known as gonzo journalism.
