About This Item

First Edition/Eighth Printing (number line starts with a 8, no first edition statement, 5077 code on spine), see scans for edition points; A very good or better book in a very good dust jacket. An outstanding copy of this multiple award winning book and the greatest selling science fiction novel of all time (as of 2003); scarce in the Chilton first edition. Basis for the 1984 David Lynch movie and the current Villenueve movie. This copy is in very good or better condition with red boards, bright white lettering on the spine, a tight binding, and clean white pages; light shelf wear is present to the spine ends and edges, with particular rubbing to the lower board edges, and a PO blind stamp to the title page, else near fine. Housed in a very good dust jacket that is crisp and vibrant with some minor rubbing and chipping to the spine ends, edges, and corners, and one small inconspicuous piece of tape repair to the verso, else near fine or better; overall, a beautiful copy. Not remaindered, not price clipped ($10.95 intact), not book club, not ex-library; protected in a mylar cover. An opportunity to have a 1st edition Dune at a much reduced price!

Synopsis

The first in the epic science fiction series of the same name, Dune is set on the desert planet Arrakis, host to "the Spice" - the most important resource in the universe, needed for interplanetary travel and coveted for its effects on longevity and granting incredible psychic powers among humans. Amidst an intergalactic power struggle, would-be heir to the planet's stewardship Paul Atreides is cast out into the desert to die following a coup. Joining a group of zealots called the Fremen, Paul soon becomes considered their messiah - Mahdi - and recognizes in them a formidable fighting force with whom he can retake control of Arrakis. Dune won both the Hugo Award for Best Novel and the Nebula Award for Best Novel.
