Description:
1940. (London, 1940). Broadsheet, 13,5 x 21,5 cm. printed recto verso. Text with crown at the top. Lower left hand corner damaged, no loss of text and small hole made by a perforator at the top through the crown. Christmas message from Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands to the Dutch people intended to give them hope. After the German invasion of the Netherlands on 10 May 1980, the royal family fled The Hague and went to London where she took charge of the Dutch government in exile. The present text was spoken on "Radio Orange" on Christmas Eve 1940 and on 1 January 1941 148,000 copies were distributed by balloon and dropped over Southern Holland. A rare survival.
