One of the major early works in crime films, and the Dr. Mabuse character was a source of inspiration to Lang throughout his career. His 1933 early sound film, The Testament of Dr. Mabuse, lead to his fleeing Germany with advent of the Nazis, and at the end of his film career he returned to his homeland in 1960 after a distinguised career in Hollywood to create his last film, The Thousand Eyes of Dr. Mabuse.
