First edition of the work, rebound in half calf binding with cloth to the boards. Written by English journalist, poet and novelist, George Robert Sims. Initially, Sims became known for his satirical pieces for 'Fun' Magazine, although he then used his platform to address social reform, focusing on the poor conditions in areas of London. In 1877, Sims began contributing to 'The Referee' sports and entertainments magazine, using the pseudonym Dagonet. This was so successful that compilations of these works were published, including this work, 'The Dagonet Ballads'.
