Mimeo snipe and Advertising Code "Approved" stamp, dated "Sep 9 1949" on verso. For many, this sixth entry in the Hepburn-Tracy canon was the peak for the duo, a non-stop, brainy battle-of-the-sexes gabfest that epitomized the two at their very best. Written by Ruth Gordon and Garson Kanin, the same writing team who produced "Pat and Mike" the following year. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Description:
London: N.p., 1953. Original film script, an unofficial "without permission" adaptation of George Sidney's "Young Bess" (1953). Simpson's presentation copy, a maroon composition notebook with the script filling rectos of over 70 leaves in the author's own manuscript ink, and a dedication on the front endpaper: "Everything I have to say, has already been said. I'll dedicate this, my first film to [memories], to you, and I hope you [appreciate] the honour / Herladyship x / 1953." No recipient is mentioned. The mysterious and unseen ladyship Simpson based her adaptation on the film, itself based on Margaret Irwin's 1953 eponymous novel and nominated for two Academy Awards. She includes her own embellished "title card" and a cast list of all credited members except Lester Matthews, and follows the film closely in dialogue and action, with slight differences, mostly spelling, grammar, and word replacing. Presumably Simpson watched the film incessantly to master the dialogue and scene changes, or may have… Read More

Description:
Hollywood: N.p., 1957. Vintage party kit produced by Elizabeth Taylor and Mike Todd in celebration of the first anniversary of the Los Angeles premiere of their 1957 film "Around the World in 80 Days." Kit includes an illustrated two-color bifold folder, which houses an introductory letter from "Liz and Mike," a two page instruction manual, and a bifold "Around the World Menu." Taylor and Todd were married on February 2, 1957, four months after the New York premiere of Todd's epic production "Around the World in 80 Days," which would go on to win five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The couple spent much of their first year together celebrating and promoting the film. On the first anniversary of the film's release, Todd threw a party at Madison Square Garden, attended by 18,000 people, and featured on a 90-minute CBS telecast. The broadcast was a "spectacular flop," according to Life magazine, and in response Taylor and Todd took this decidedly different (and flippant) approach to the… Read More
