New York: D. & J. Sadlier & Company, 1877. First US Edition. Hard Cover. Used; Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Normal wear for age, plus chipped top, bottom, and title area of spine; newspaper article between pages 32 and 33 has left browning on those pages. Description:
Garden City, New York, USA: Doubleday, Doran & Company, 1930. First US Edition. Hard Cover. Used; Like New. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Average wear for age including some fraying to boards and spine; bookplate on front endpaper which also has very small hole from insect. Black cloth boards with yellow paper over front and back, and yellow titles and decoration on spine; 252 pp. rough cut. Rare in this first American edition. Ernest Bramah, born E.B. Smith in 1867, was perhaps best known for his detective Kai Lung, who appeared in many stories and novels. "The Mirror of Kong Ho" contains a young Chinese boy's supposed letters from London to his father back home. Westerners in London are called 'barbarians' and many of the aids to life in our society--such as the piano, or the motorcar--give Kong Ho endless food for thought. Bramah said the book was "found amusing by those who admit they cannot stand Kai Lung.

Description:
London: Richard Bentley and Son, 1890. New and Cheaper Edition. Hard Cover. Used; Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Less fraying and wear than would be expected for a book this old; binding is strong although there is some damage to hinges; previous owner signed half-title page. Brown cloth boards with gilt titles and decoration; 450 pp. plus 55 pp. containing detailed contents, preface, and a memoire of Madame Campan; 4 plates. The 'first lady-in-waiting to the queen' depicts life in the French royal court, and recounts the events of the Revolution and subsequent demise of Marie Antoinette. This edition in one volume follows by a few years the two volume version which also had more plates. Yet it is a remarkable and very rare example of nineteenth century bookmaking.

Description:
USA: Bernard Geis Associates, 1970. First Edition. Hard Cover. Used; Acceptable/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. DJ torn/soiled/stained/faded and has chip out of top in back; top of spine slightly frayed; edges especially top are stained and soiled; 1" x 1/8" section of edge has been chewed. The good news is that all pages are intact (except the small chewed area) and the binding is strong and whole and that this is the true first printing of a scarce title which is extremely pricey in better condition. Yellow cloth boards with black titles on spine and red paper covering most of front and back; 179 pp. Mystery writer Lawrence Block turned his hand to something else in this novel. It is told in the form of a series of letters to and from "the world's most cunning linguist" who plunges into not one but seven simultaneous and overlapping love affairs that would boggle a satyr. The result is an hilarious series of romps and escapades… Read More
