Dodge Library Edition; publication date unknown but the publisher only existed from 1895 to 1928 and this appears an early issue; textured reddish brown leather boards with title and decorations stamped into front and spine; tissue protected frontispiece; decorative endpapers; 288 pp. rough-cut parchment. "Being the ENCHIRIDION together withChapters from the DISCOURSES and Selections from the FRAGMENTS of Epictetus". The Greek philosopher was born at Hieropolis in Phrygia around 60 A.D. This translation is by Elizabeth Carter whose portrait is the frontispiece. Editor Rolleston supplies the Preface and the introductory essay by Dean Farrar is quite well known. This edition is quite rare.

Curwood was a prolific writer in the early twentieth century specialising in books about nature and conservation especially in Michigan and farther north in Canada. Many of his books were made into films. "The Courage of Marge O'Doone" became "The Girl Beyond the Trail" for a 1917 film, and this British edition of the book was published under that name.

Planning to go to the world of Irish myths, Harold mistakenly ends up in a Norse myth, but escapes and returns. Chalmers then accompanies Shea to the world of Spenser's "Faerie Queene". The trip is successful, but there are many complications once they get there.
