Royal octavo (9 1/4" x 6 1/2"0 bound in original publisher's green cloth with gilt lettering to spine and pictorial cover in original pictorial jacket. In this account of the naval aspect of Hernando Cortes' invasions of the Aztec Empire, C Harvey Gardiner has added another dimension to the drama of Spanish conquest of the New World and to Cortes himself as military strategist. The use of ships, in the climatic moment of the Spanish-Aztec clash, wich brought a bout the fall of Tenoctitlan and conseequently of all Mexico, though discussed briefly in former English-Language accounts of the struggle, has never before been detailed and brought into a perspective that reveals its true significance. Gardiner, on the basis of previously unexploited sixteenth-century source materials, has written an historical revision that is as colorful as it is authoritative. Condition: Jacket soiled, spine sunned, fold-over flap creased, light edge wear, else a very good copy in like jacket.
