About This Item
Racine, WI: Whitman, 1934. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/Good. A large-format picture book printed in dramatic bold colors. The main character is a "Goof", a sort of elf with antennas, who is a marvelous baker by profession. Grant's best-known whimsical bakers are Snap! Crackle! and Pop!, the Kellogg's Rice Krispies mascots.
9-1/2 by 12-1/2 inches. 40 pages, including 16 full-page color illustrations, plus illustrated color endpapers. First edition (first printing, with no additional printings noted on the copyright page). Burgundy cloth spine (also seen in dark blue, priority unknown). The illustrated boards have light shelfwear on the bottom edge but are otherwise near fine. The scarce dust jacket is missing pieces at the spine (about three inches, in total). There are also a number of old tears repaired on the back (verso) with tape. Typical of Whitman publications, there is no price on the jacket.
