First mass market paperback edition, published by Lion Books, 1950. Cover art by Herman Bischoff. Lion Books Number 14. The Lion Books mass market is the first mass market paperback edition of this collection. 25 additional short stories besides the title story. 4" X 6-3/8", 238 pages. Cover is intact, with a diagonal crease at the top right corner, 1"X 3/4". Cover has some rubbing wear, edge wear to the tips of the corners, and spine. Spine is somewhat concave from use though still tight and entirely intact. Edges of the text block are clean, though there is age appropriate tanning. Tanning to the text pages appropriate to the type of paper stock used in this edition.

There is a small diagonal tear to the top right corner of the first flyleaf page - about 1/4" deep by 1" long - at the top right corner .No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Not a library discard. The attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory.
