About This Item

BASILEAE: APUD NIC. EPISCOPIUM IUN., 1558. In 16. Dim. 17x12 cm. Pp. 32 (n.n.)+350+2 (n.n.). Numerose note manoscritte all'interno. Marca editoriale all'ultima carta. Titolo manoscritto al taglio inferiore. Opera collazionata e risultata completa. Legatura in pergamena. Legatura in buone condizioni. Scarce edition of 1558 of this work written by Cristophe Longueil (1488-1522) franciscan humanist.<BR>Longueil in 1517 became friend with Pietro Bembo and Jacopo Sadoleto but he was forced anyway to move in che Padoa where he died. Enthusiastic of Cicero, was a great propagandist of Ciceronism in france then a Rome. This epistolarium is not a simple imitation of the ciceronian production, but denotates a stylistic research and an expositive elegance of rare freshness. In the first part his life, then his work. Different manuscripted notes inside. Editorial mark in the last page. Manuscripted title in the lower external edge of pages. Collationed work. Parchment cover. Not common work. Full parchment cover with reintegration in the spine in fair general conditions with wearings and wormings in the edges, plates and spine. Binding in good conditions. Inside pages are in very good conditions with occasional foxings. Worming in the right edge until pag. 12 and from pag. 347 until the end with no loss of text; until pag. 10 (n.n.) with loss of some letter; in the last page with loss of some engraved part. Slight humidity stain in the upepr edge from page 337 until the end.
