Description:
London: Michael Joseph, 1965. Bound in the publishers sage green hard covers with gilt title lettering to spine. This is the first impression of the first edition of a scarce Dick Francis title. The 255 pages remain in very presentable condition and are tightly bound. Book sits solid and square with all corners sharp. Previous owners name to front free endapaper remains discreet. A very presentable copy inside and out. Housed in the vibrant green coloured dustwrapper with contrasting red title lettering to spine and front panel. Publishers printed price intact on front inside flap. Light wear and chipping to the edges mainly at the vulnerable head and heel of spine but nontheless a very decent example of the famous Richard Barton designed dustwrapper. Not easy to encounter in this condition. The book maintains a very presentable shelf appearance. The exciting artwork and vibrant colours combine to create a picture of compelling realism. Protected in a removable archival booksleeve to preserve its… Read More

BASILEAE: APUD NIC. EPISCOPIUM IUN., 1558. In 16. Dim. 17x12 cm. Pp. 32 (n.n.)+350+2 (n.n.). Numerose note manoscritte all'interno. Marca editoriale all'ultima carta. Titolo manoscritto al taglio inferiore. Opera collazionata e risultata completa. Legatura in pergamena. Non comune. Copertina in piena pergamena con… Read More

Description:
1894 1st ed Tom Sawyer Abroad Mark TWAIN Jules Verne Parody Illustrated Africa

"A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes."
― Mark Twain

Mark Twain and his works were immensely popular all on their own. Such notable characters as Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn stood out above other 19th-century literary characters, and not just in the United States. However, Twain sought to show his level of literary ability and expertise with the 1894 classic 'Tom Sawyer Abroad'.
Jules Verne created several adventure novels, many of which are still well-known and popular today; however, Twain wanted to parody the Verne-style adventure. In 'Tom Sawyer Abroad,' Twain puts Tom and Huck in a futuristic hot air balloon ride to Africa where they encounter world wonders, robbers, and other adventure tropes. While it has nowhere near the popularity of the original Twain 'Adventure' titles, 'Tom Sawyer Abroad' is still a fine work of American adventure fiction.

17 volumes with frontispieces, illustrations and indexes. Royal octavo (9 3/4"" x 6 1/2") bound in original publisher's light green cloth with labels to spine. and gilt head end pages with deckled edges. Bassorah edition, number 129 limited to 1000 copies.Burton's translation was one of two unabridged and unexpurgated English translations done in the 1880s; the first was by John Payne, under the title The Book of the Thousand Nights and One Night (1882–1884, nine volumes). Burton's ten volume version was published almost immediately afterward with a slightly different title. This, along with the fact that Burton closely advised Payne and partially based his books on Payne's, led later to charges of plagiarism. Owing to the sexual imagery in the source texts (which Burton made a special study of, adding extensive footnotes and appendices on "Oriental" sexual mores) and to the strict Victorian laws on obscene material, both translations were printed as private editions for subscribers only, rather… Read More

New York, Grove Press, 2022, trade paperback, 272 pp, Advance Uncorrected Proof (ARC), New. Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Cohen explores themes that would permeate his later work, from shame and unworthiness to sexual desire in all its sacred and profane dimensions to longing, whether for love, family, freedom, or transcendence. Description:
New York: Random House, 1959. Book. Illus. by Sam March (dust jacket design). Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. Small octavo. Humes's second novel, following 'The Underground City,' both of which led to his being considered by Esquire magazine as having the same promise as two obscure guys named Updike and Styron (whoever they are). Anyway, he met a guy named Leary who introduced him to a little substance known as LSD, and after seriously indulging his fondness for the hallucinogen he became a trifle paranoid and a bit delusional, which pretty much ended his writing career. Humes was co-founder (with Peter Matthiessen and George Plimpton) of The Paris Review. He died of prostate cancer in 1992. Black cloth w/gilt lettering, 184 pages. Mildly cocked, light general wear, in price-clipped dust jacket w/light rubbing, light edgewear, creases to fore-edges of both flaps..
