Signed by the editor, Giovanni Prevatali and with a note tucked into front on his memo paper from his doctor's office in Santa Rosa, CA. Beppo was born in the Italian villa of Pontida and moved to New York City to be a pediatrician in Little Italy. While traveling home to Italy he meets an American tourist, Rose, and falls in love. They return to New York, marry, and Beppo works at Bellevue Hospital. Rose works on restoring the family estate Mont Albano. When WW II breaks out, their two sons are sent to fight for the Americans in Italy. After the war, Rose becomes friends with the future Pope John XXIII. An ongoing conflict between the two is Rose's Protestant faith and Beppo's lack of any. Late in life, Beppo slowly accepts that faith does have a role in his life for it to have turned out this way.

Obtained in Africa in the 1980's from a British missionary with same mission that published this book.
