In excellent condition for its age. The set was the fifth edition. The covers, of leather and marbleized boards, have wear at the edges and along the spines. The red coloring and gold letters on the spine are still vibrant. Bindings are tight and, unless otherwise indicated below, all pages are in fine codition for all volumes; i.e. clean, clear, without marks, folds, tears or foxing. Descriptions of each volume follow:

• Vol. I (XL +427 pages): Stain on the page with the protrait of Pepys, and on the title page;
• Vol. II (484 pages): There is a slight tear on the spine, about on inch from the top. The frontpiece portrait of Mrs. Pepys has foxing, lighterfoxing on the adjacent title page;
• Vol. III (479 pages) Noticeable age-toning on the edges of the frontpeice engraving of Pepys library and on the adjacent title page, which also has a small fold at the upper right corner;
• Volume IV (468 pages): has a fold out map in excellent condition except for a tear on its upper right cornder. Some light smudges/stain? at the top margin of the title page and its adjacent page (upon which the map is attached).
