Description

New York: Seven Stories Press, 1998. First edition. First edition. Signed by Gary Webb on the half title, inscribed to the former owner with Webb's AOL email address. xxviii, 548 pp. with eight pages of b/w photos. Fine in Fine dust jacket. An attractive copy. A very rare signature.

Journalist Gary Webb's still-controversial expose of CIA drug dealing and its relationship to the crack epidemic in the US fueled by crack dealers like "Freeway" Ricky Ross. In 2004 Webb would be found dead in his apartment, shot in the head twice, which police ruled a suicide. A 2014 film, Kill the Messenger, dramatized Webb's life, his claims, and the severe backlash he faced from the media. To his supporters Webb remains an inspirational journalist who persevered in the face of tremendous official corruption and coverup.
