LADD Air Force Base, Fairbanks, Alaska: Alaskan Air Command Arctic Aeromedical Laboratory, 1957. First Edition. Paperback. Near fine. Softcover 4to, 47pp. Near Fine with mild soil to wraps. The result of several years' study into edible plants conducted by the Arctic Aeromedical Laboratory, the first part of which was published in 'Wild Edible and Poisonous Plants of Alaska' (Christine Heller, 1951). Assembled to prepare soldiers and survival instructors "who do not have time to be a botanist" not only what plants are edible, but the nutrition value of plants and their availability, much modeled on the Eskimo diet. Illustrated with photos, maps, and drawings. The Arctic Aeromedical Laboratory was created by the US Air Force in 1947 to increase understanding of the Arctic wilderness and conduct general research related to physical and psychological survival in cold weather climates.
